Norther California: Historical Settlement

During the 1700s, the first Spanish missionaries arrived in California. Many Spanish settlers then soon followed from Mexico. They had started establishing communities also known as missions all the way towards the Oregon Border. At 1847, at the conclusion of the Spanish-American War that had started in Texas. California became a part of the United States as part of a treaty. Then in 1848, Gold was discovered in the Northern California's Sierra Nevada Mountains. Due to this find, many moved out west in search of fortune for the Gold Rush. The Gold Rush caused over 200,000 people to come to California in just about 2 years. Most of these people had settle in the Lake Tahoe, Sacramento basin, and San Francisco areas. In 1850, California became the 31st state.

A Historic Spanish Mission in Carmen, Northern California



The Spanish Mission in the delightful little tourist town of Carmel in Northern California is one of the sweetest we've visited.
